An interesting tibit I found in my research on Amelia Earhart you might also find of interest. I read the book Letters from Amelia: An Intimate Portrait by Jean L. Backus (Copyright 1982, Boston: Beacon Press). On page 197, Amelia wrote a letter from LA sometime after May 22, 1936 to her mother:

"...Please don't down the Roosevelt administration. It's all right to be reactionary inside but it is out of step with the times to sound off about the chosen people who have inherited or grabbed the earth. You must think of me when you converse and I believe the experiments carried on today point the way to a new social order when governments will be the voice of the proletariat far more than democracy ever can be."
