New World Order - Coming To An Xbox Near You!
This might seem like someone's idea of a sick joke, but it is not! This game seems to have been ripped from the headlines of today's news!
In the November 2005 issue of the Official Xbox Magazine, there is a review of the forthcoming game SHATTERED UNION, which is due to be released on October 4, 2005:

THE STATES ARE NOT UNITED
Can Shattered Union make turn-based strategy fun on Xbox?
How does the fracturing of the United States come about? Unpopular political machinations start a chain reaction that leads to a disaster that you need to resolve in 2K GAMES' original turn-based strategy game. The story of Shattered Union ...
2008: David Jefferson Adams is elected the 44th -- and most unpopular -- President of the United States.
2011: Homeland Security Act is invoked after trouble and strife in the Union.
2012: A bogus election sees Adams back for a second term, and the country goes nuts.
2013: At the inaguration in Washington, a low-grade nuke is detonated, wiping out Adams and most of Congress (plus the news crew filming the event). With the Union now in tatters, the European Union sends over a peace-keeping force to police the D.C. area. At the same time, California declares home rule and secedes. Nobody is surprised when Texas jumps at the chance to declare sovereignity. In total, the country is plit into seven factions:
PACIFICA (the Pacific Northwest)
CALIFORNIA COMMONWEALTH
REPUBLIC OF TEXAS
CONFEDERACY (Southeastern states, including Florida)
EUROPEAN UNION (based in D.C.)
NEW ENGLAND ALLIANCE
GREAT PLAINS FEDERATION
NOW WHAT?
Starting as any of these factions, you have infantry units, artillery, cash, oil reserves, maintenance facilities, and possibly air units, all depending on the facilities in each location (Texas has oil, California has more cash, for example). In the campaign, you then move the units to take over other regions in a quest to reunite the nation under your leadership. It's all about strategy as you move each unit to attack enemy locations.
This is what the game is all about, the mushroom cloud of death and destruction!
What helps give SHATTERED UNION an extra edge is its' use of familiar U.S. locations. Its' major roadways are all labeled accurately. Famous city monuments are present (you can bomb or protect the Golden Gate Bridge, for example). It all adds a real-world quality to the disturbing notion. Sure, turn-based strategy games on Xbox are in short supply, but we've hgh hopes that the setting and gameplay format of this September release will still be compelling to the twitch audience.
Kentroversy Comments:
The disturbing trend in computer and console gaming is the emergence of games based upon real-life crime. Games such as the Grand Theft Auto series, True Crime series, and a host of others -- including SHATTERED UNION -- have begun to tempt our children with the idea that dishonesty and crime are behaviors to be emulated and even respected.
SHATTERED UNION strikes me as the type of game that might have been made for the purpose of the endoctrination of our nations' youth, as they become desensitized and accept the game's scenario as just another normal part of life.
It also strikes me as prophetic -- as it shows the nuclear destruction of an entire major American city -- an event that WILL unfortunately occur in the next couple of years as AmeriKa moves closer and closer to the staged and completely fabricated World War III between the USA and RED CHINA.
Check out the link below to the games' official website. You will be met with a large graphic of the games box artwork, which shows the complete obliteration of Washington, DC. The Capitol and Washinton Monument are shown in flames -- but what is even more interesting -- is what lies behind the artwork of the tank. It is a destroyed grid type building remnant -- which evokes emotional connection with 9/11 -- as it looks like the steel bars that were part of the WTC towers outer walls.

Take a moment or two to view the trailer preview for the game at the following webpage -- you are NOT going to believe what you are watching! But, it is a REAL GAME -- I wonder who it is that finds the destruction of the United States to have entertainment value?

Here is a BUSINESS WEEK article on the game:
Business Week Online - SHATTERED UNION Review August 9, 2005
I don't know about you, dear reader, but for my own $0.02 -- this is the type of garbage that my wife and I will toil long and hard to prevent our son from accessing.
We have come a long way from the days of PAC-MAN, ASTEROIDS, CENTIPEDE, and all those CLASSIC GAMES of my own youth. Nowadays, with GRAND THEFT AUTO -- the player can car-jack, steal, sell drugs, and pimp whores down in the red-light district. We have games where the player can break out of prison (The SUFFERING), and games that use every facility of low morals that have been taught to our youth in the governmental compulsory public school system -- a system that is based on Skinner's behavior-modification -- which is technically known as OPERANT CONDITIONING.
Will our country go down that long and dark slippery slope as shown in SHATTERED UNION? If WE THE PEOPLE do not stop those who have seized power, our future might very well end up as shown in this disturbing game of turn-based DESTRUCTION OF U.S. SOVEREIGNITY. How will the GAME end? That my friend, is largely up to YOU to decide when it is that you have had enough.
