KENTROVERSY TAPES PODCAST # 01

Welcome to the first episode of The Kentroversy Tapes podcast. For this debut episode, I have an interview with someone whom I admire greatly, musician David Baerwald, who is perhaps best-known for his work with Sheryl Crow and in the Hollywood film Moulin Rouge, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination for his love song duet Come What May, sung by the two leads Nicole Kidman and Ewan MacGregor near the very end of the film.

Even though today he works as a film composer, songwriter, and producer, David is also responsible for my favorite album of the entire 1980's decade, the album Boomtown, which was released in the late spring of 1986, by David Baerwald and his partner of the time, David Ricketts -- recording as 'David + David.' In 1992, David released the politically-charged album 'Triage,' which featured many politically oriented protest songs, as did its' accompanying 'Triage Short Film' which was directed in part by Gore Verbinski, of Pirates of the Caribbean fame.

In all, David and I take a look at his life in music, a career that has lasted the past twenty years. In a business that is all too often fickle, it is a rarity for anyone to still be a viable contender two decades into their music career, and in the case of David Baerwald, it is us, who have been the lucky ones -- for we get to experience such great music and lyrics from one of my all-time favorite songwriters.
