Financial Troubles in Buffalo, NY USA
Today, the BUFFALO NEWS published a FULL-PAGE advertisement entitled: AN OPEN LETTER TO THE WESTERN NEW YORK COMMUNITY - PRINCIPLES OF PROGRESS. It appears that recently, $400 MILLION DOLLARS has come up missing in the Erie County and City of Buffalo budgets. As a result, they are trying to merge the two areas in a regionalized government --- because of program overlap and other alleged duplication of services.
What has happened to our area is the complete destruction of the industrial manufacturing capability --- with companies such as BETHLEHEM STEEL going full belly-up bankrupt. Company after company has left our area over the past thirty years 1975-2005. Nowadays, our area is hard-up for family-suuporting employment. If it isn't a retail store, a fast food joint, WAL-MART, or some type of a construction or some other form of back-breaking work --- there simply isn't much else to do here in our area.
By the way, with the amount of goods from China sold in WAL-MART --- I agree with JEFF RENSE who said that the true name of that store should be CHINA-MART. Remember, they got busted several times for putting MADE IN USA tags, labels, and posters on products made in China. CHINA-MART is also anti-union --- and THAT ALONE is the reason why I have never shopped there (and never will, either).
Here are some of the facts about our Western New York area as contained in this full-page advertisment. In Buffalo, there is more than just the occasional snowstorm to worry about.
NOTE: The following have been quoted VERBATIM from the Buffalo News (June 19, 2005), pg. A3:
01) Our regional population has declined 10 years in a row. Between 1990 and 2000, the population of those 18 to 34 year-old age group declined 23 percent. In part as a result, there are 23,000 vacant buildings in the City of Buffalo.
02) Twenty-six percent of the city's population lives below the poverty line.
03) The assessed value of real-estate in Buffalo declined from $9.6 billion in 1994 to $8.8 billion in 2005.
04) The governments of both the City of Buffalo and Erie County have failed to balance their budgets.
05) Only 64 percent of Buffalo students who entered the ninth grade in September 1999 graduated by August 2004. More than a third of those entering the ninth grade in the Buffalo public schools fail to graduate four years later, a rate that's 50 percent worse than the New York statewide average.
06) Over the past decade, Buffalo-Niagara ranked 97th in total job creation among the nation's 100 largest metro areas. The area actually had 500 fewer jobs in 2004 than in 1990, compared to a 20 percent increase nationally.
This OPEN LETTER was signed by thirty-two business and union leaders from our community.
HERE IS THE BOTTOM LINE . . .
This matter of the collapse of the Western New York area is a direct result of the NAFTA and GATT so-called free-trade agreements. Our area has suffered in more than in just business --- as all that is really left are local units of globalist corporations --- which constantly bleed money out of the USA by using cheap labor in countries such as China, Mexico, India, and Malaysia.
It is a shame --- as the summers are always quite beautiful in Buffalo, New York USA.
