TV Viewership Continues Its' Collapse

As recent viewership trends indicate, more and more people are coming to the realization that television is NOT helpful to understanding the world around them.


TV VIEWERSHIP CONTINUES ITS' COLLAPSE

At a time when the HBO drama THE SOPRANOS can command enough ratings to land itself in the Top 20 of all network shows, the major networks are still bleeding viewers, as more and more people walk away from what the late comedian BILL HICKS called television --- Lucifer's Dream Box --- an epithet that I have always considered to be highly appropriate to the situation.

The interesting thing about this is that there are THREE TIMES fewer viewers that subscribe to the PAY CHANNEL HBO, than have the free broadcasts of these major networks. Beyond this, HBO with their dramatic programing, has far surpassed ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC in the winning of Emmy awards for superior programming. The 2005 EMMY'S saw HBO winning 27, far more than any of these other networks.

With May sweeps around the corner, where the networks set advertising rates for the next year, even number one rated network CBS is now pulling in UNDER 12 million viewers per week, with 11.9 million unique viewers counted for the week of April 17-23, 2006. So, when one hears about a show like CBS' own CSI getting 18.88 million viewers, there appears to be some level of dishonesty going on here in these numbers. If the network is claiming ONLY 11.9 million viewers for the entire week, then can a rating of 18.88 million viewers be accurate?

Perhaps the Neilsen Media company, who compile the weekly television ratings, is providing incorrect data? How can 18.88 million people be watching, when the pool of total available viewers is ONLY 11.9 million viewers to begin with?!


TOTAL VIEWERS - APRIL 17-23, 2006

• CBS = 11.9 million viewers


• FOX = 9.8 million viewers


• ABC = 7.9 million viewers


• NBC = 7.4 million viewers


• The WB = 3.0 million viewers


• UPN = 2.9 million viewers

NOTE: The WB and UPN are merging into one network at the conclusion of this television season, in an effort to attract more viewers, as well as in an attempt to stop some of the financial losses of BOTH networks.

TV NEWS VIEWERSHIP - April 17-23, 2006

The viewers of the nightly news between the 6:30-7:00pm time slot, has shown some dramatic losses since 1980:

• NBC Nightly News = 8.2 million viewers (17 million in 1980)


• ABC World News Tonight = 7.6 million viewers (16 million in 1980)


• CBS Evening News = 7 million viewers (19 million in 1980)

NOTE: These figures are based upon total network viewership that has shrunk by more than 50% since 1980.

Here below, is a chart showing a definite downward trend in the viewers of the major network's nightly newscasts:


This chart shows the downward trend in the ratings of major network news. However, the network's claim that more people are watching cable news simply does NOT pan out in their network ratings.


This dramatic drop in viewers is directly correspondant to the spiritual awakening that is occurring around us everywhere we turn in this life. The more AWAKE that someone becomes, the less tolerant they are to the LIES and PROPAGANDA that is pumped out by the mass media, on a continuous 24/7/365 basis. And this is why THEY are now running scared, of which George Bush Jr. is their pathetic poster child, that those who are GOING ALONG TOO GET ALONG are now in the minority, and those of us of the alternative news media are commanding the largest audiences.

The Kentroversy Papers itself is growing at a pace which has been very heartening to see and experience. There are 36.6 million blogs that are being ranked by Technorati. This news site is within the TOP 1%, ranked at 149,175 of that 36.6 million. Considering that I am doing this all on my own with a budget of $0.00 --- I am extremely pleased with these results in this first ten months of publication.

I can tell you just from my own personal experience in this area, that the BEST THING that I had ever done to help myself BREAK FREE, was in the shutting off of the mainstream news and the television in general. My own wife benefitted from the installation of a DVR unit, which helped her to break free from the hypnotic effect of a continuous dose of this television, which has naturally given her much more time to devote to things which contribute to our home and household, instead of merely 'vegging out' on the living room sofa.
