ACLU Executive Director Responds To My FAX
This morning, I have received the following reply from ACLU National Executive Director Anthony D. Romero . . .
December 1, 2005
From: Anthony D. Romero
Executive Director - ACLU
Dear Mr. [Kentroversy]:
Thank you for your letter of November 30, 2005.
I appreciate you taking the time to write me about the "MIAMI SHIELD" plan recently announced by the City of Miami, and I am glad to have the opportunity to respond here. While it is unclear whether the plan will include random identification checks, the ACLU opposes as unconstitutional any plan to stop people and demand identification without reason to believe that there is criminal activity. Please see the press release issued by the ACLU of Florida which I have attached to this letter.
I can assure you that the ACLU has been extraordinarily active and effective in defending freedom and protecting Constitutional rights. To learn more about our work, I urge you to visit our website at www.aclu.org.
Again, thank you for writing. I hope that you will reconsider your decision to resign your membership in the ACLU. Now more than ever, we need your help.
Sincerely,
Anthony D. Romero
Executive Director; ACLU
In the above letter, we have a change in position, and it has only been a couple days since I sent my FAXes to the ACLU national and ACLU Florida offices. In the original communication that I receicved the other day from the Florida ACLU, it clearly stated that there will be NO RANDOM CHECKS --- and already they have changed that position.
It saddens me greatly that these people continue to play semantical games with a public they believe has no memory.
Well, I do have a memory . . .
Sorry, Mr. Romero, I have much better things to do with my money.
